A double jazz celebration! John Coltrane would have turned one hundred in 2026, Alice Coltrane ninety in 2027. Both icons and eternal innovators of their instruments remain references for artists today. Ancienne Belgique and Bozar join forces for a unique tribute to John Coltrane. A Love Supreme is a quartet created by Salva Sanchis (ES/BE) and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (BE) based on John Coltrane's album of the same name. This collaboration, which began in 2005, is a meeting between two choreographers who find common ground in their shared fascination with this iconic music. In A Love Supreme, Coltrane and his musicians build a total, absolute freedom of improvisation using a simple basic structure, incessantly pushing boundaries. This translates literally into the dance: for this performance, the choreographers take on the challenge of weaving improvisation and composition into one seamless whole. For this new version, Sanchis and De Keersmaeker rewrote their 2005 choreography for four young male dancers. With their distinctly energetic interpretation, they emphasize the vitality of Coltrane's ode to divine love. At the explicit request of AB and as part of (JOHN) COLTRANE 100, this performance is being revived.
